When starting a roll call, the lecturer sets “QR Mode” to “Dynamic” or “Static”. Both modes follow the same signing rules; the difference is how long a code stays valid.
Short answer
A static QR code stays the same all session, so a photo of it works until the roll call closes. A dynamic code, preselected for class roll calls, is regenerated on the server every 10 seconds by default, adjustable from 5 to 30; a shared photo works only for the rest of that interval plus 10 seconds.
When the code changes
Static QR code
One code is used for the whole session and never changes until the roll call closes.
Dynamic QR code
The code is regenerated on the server at the interval the lecturer chose. The default is 10 seconds, and the panel allows 5 to 30.
If a photo is shared
Static QR code
A photo of the code stays valid as long as the roll call is open.
Dynamic QR code
A photo only works for the rest of that interval and the next 10 seconds. Nothing stops someone taking a photo; the code simply goes stale quickly.
A scan that arrives late
Static QR code
Since the code does not change, no grace time is needed.
Dynamic QR code
If a student scanned in time but the interval ended while the app waited for location and device data, the previous code is accepted for 10 more seconds.
Screen and projector
Static QR code
The code on screen does not change. The event module also offers a single QR layout for posters.
Dynamic QR code
Each new code is sent only to the lecturer’s live screen, never to students. The screen must stay on and projected for the whole session.
If the live connection drops
Static QR code
The lecturer’s screen fetches the QR code again every 15 seconds.
Dynamic QR code
The lecturer’s screen fetches the QR code again every 2 seconds. In both modes the student’s signature is checked online.
Signing rules
Static QR code
The registered phone, one signature per roll call and, if the institution turns it on, the location check all apply to a static code too.
Dynamic QR code
The same rules apply. Everyone sees the same code in a given interval; there is no per-student QR code.
How it is chosen in DAS
Static QR code
Set “QR Mode” to “Static” under “Advanced Settings”. The event manager’s permanent session only works with a static code.
Dynamic QR code
“Dynamic” comes preselected for class roll calls. The “Refresh Rate” is set when the roll call starts.
For class roll calls a dynamic QR code is the right fit. It is the DAS default, and a photo of the code sent outside the room goes stale quickly.
A static QR code suits events where the code must stay the same for a long time: a seminar, a permanent check-in point or a printed poster. Because a photo works for the whole session, it is not a strong safeguard on its own.
Whichever mode is chosen, the registered phone, one signature per roll call and the institution’s location rule apply in the same way.
No. In the panel the refresh rate is set between 5 and 30 seconds, with 10 seconds as the default.
