Location check

Your institution sets the location check to off, advisory or required. DAS measures where each signature came from and shows far-away signatures to the lecturer; when the readings are not enough, it makes no call.

Short answer

In DAS the institution picks the location mode: “Off”, “Advisory” or “Required”. Advisory mode measures the distance and reports it without blocking anyone. In required mode a signature from outside the radius is refused; with no location or no measurable distance, the signature is accepted by default. After class, each session’s place is derived from its own signatures.

Three modes

In required mode, far signatures are refused on the spot

A system administrator picks “Off”, “Advisory” or “Required” on the Location tab of the attendance policy page; advisory mode measures the distance and reports it without blocking the signature. In required mode a signature beyond the radius from the coordinate on file for the course’s faculty is refused, and the student sees the approximate distance and the allowed radius.

  • The radius is set in the panel, between 10 m and 50 km
  • Without a location or measurable distance, it is accepted by default
  • Individual students can get an exception on the “Rule Exceptions” screen

Session location

Each session finds its place from its own signatures

After the roll call DAS finds the cluster where most located signatures gather and uses it as the class location, instead of a fixed campus point. With fewer than 5 located signatures, or when they are scattered, no call is made for anyone. If the institution sets an effective date, a signature beyond the radius stops counting toward attendance from that date, yet it is still accepted and never deleted.

  • GPS accuracy works in the student’s favour; coarse readings are not judged
  • The not-counted rule is never applied retroactively
  • The lecturer can “Count as valid” with a reason, saved under their name

Campus report

Far-away signatures in the “Off-site Signatures” report

A system administrator sees far-away signatures by course, by student and by session quality; the report opens only in an administrator session with two-step verification and changes no records. It is decision support: an off-site signature alone is not proof of cheating.

  • Filtered by five distance bands, from the radius to over 100 km
  • Patterns such as “Possible second room” and “Fixed spot” are flagged
  • The filtered list exports to Excel with a corporate header

At signing, the distance is measured from the coordinate in the address record of the course’s faculty. If that faculty has no coordinate, the signature is not refused.

Device binding

A student’s account is bound to their phone at the first signature, and several signatures from one phone are flagged.
