Device binding
At the first successful signature the student’s account is bound to their phone, and signatures from any other phone are refused. If several students sign from one phone, DAS flags those signatures and leaves the decision to the lecturer.
Short answer
DAS binds a student’s account to the phone of their first successful signature and refuses other phones, for QR and unique code alike. Students get two device changes per term, and the lecturer can grant one more with a written reason. Several signatures from one phone in a roll call are not blocked but flagged as “Shared Device”.
Binding
The first signature binds the phone
The student’s phone is registered to their account at their first successful signature. The binding is made only after the signature is written, so an unsuccessful try on a friend’s phone never locks the account to it. From then on, signatures are taken only from this phone.
- The same check runs for QR and unique code signatures
- A student on another phone sees the registered device and changes left
- Students see their registered device and device history in settings
Device changes
Two device changes per term
A student who switches phones deletes the old device themselves, and the new phone is registered at the next signature. Each deletion uses one change; there are 2 per term, renewed on the first day of course registration in the new term.
- When changes run out, the lecturer can grant one more with a reason
- Only for a student enrolled in their course who has no changes left
- Every extra change is written to the audit log with reason and author
Shared device
Two signatures from one phone are flagged, not blocked
If several students sign the same roll call from one phone, every signature from that phone is flagged as “Shared Device”. The signatures are still taken; the flag is for review, and the lecturer decides.
- Matching uses the phone’s own identity, never the IP address
- Students on the same Wi-Fi network are therefore not flagged
- The flag shows on the live screen, in roll call history and admin reports
No. On a campus network hundreds of students share one IP address, so DAS never looks at IP addresses. It flags only when the phone’s own identity matches.
