For: Student affairs, System administrator
Some courses do not take roll calls in the system. Such a course is marked “out of scope”: student affairs requests it and a system administrator decides.

Short answer
Student affairs opens the out-of-scope courses page under requests and approvals, types the course code and picks the course from the in-scope list. It sends the request with a written reason. Once a system administrator approves, the course is out of scope: no roll calls are taken in it and the decision is written to the marking history.
Open out-of-scope courses
In the student affairs panel the page sits under requests and approvals. Student affairs can only request courses within its own scope.
Find the course
Type the course code or filter the list by faculty, department or lecturer. Matching is done by course code or by lecturer.
Pick from the in-scope list
Courses still covered by roll calls are listed on this tab. Select the course you want taken out of scope.
Send a request with a reason
Press the out-of-scope request button, write a short reason in the request dialog and send it.
Follow the request
The request shows as awaiting approval. You follow the requests you sent from the “My requests” button.
The administrator decides
A system administrator approves the request or rejects it with a note of at least 10 characters; several requests can be approved together. An approved course goes out of scope and the decision lands in the marking history.
Good to know
- Out of scope applies to a course; an exemption applies to a student. They are separate actions.
- Student affairs does not write the decision itself, it sends a request; only a system administrator makes the change.
- Out-of-scope courses are left out of the roll call opening count on the compliance screen, which states how many courses were excluded for this reason.
The course carries an out-of-scope badge in the student’s course list. No roll calls are taken in it through DAS.
